You know the right to "bare Arms" can be interpreted like in short sleeved shirts. Bear arms can be arms of bears.

What about the start of the amendment that says"...a well regulated militia?"

So called assault weapons are used in less than 1% of all crimes. The only way we can protect our children is with increased security, with armed teachers and other measures. The reason the assault weapons ban was allowed to expire was because there was no discernible difference in the crime rate when we had it.

One of the things pro-gunners get hopping mad about is the miscategorization of assault rifles. And I'm not going to get into that whole can of bees but as far as the second amendment goes, it says people have a right to guns but it doesn't say they should be so easy to get ahold of. I think the meet in the middle point is to raise the barrier for entry substantially for all semi automatic rifles. Pay a tax for transfer, fill out some paperwork stating that the gun is changing hands (like when you buy a car) get sign off from a local LEO who would have the authority to refuse signing if he had decent reason to do so and undergo some type of mandatory safety and competency training It seems to me that having to wait for paperwork to clear and having to jump through a few pain in the ass legal hoops might at least factor out some of the crime of passion buyers.
