There was a deputy at that school in Florida. A trained law enforcement professional with decades of experience. He had body armor, a variety of less than lethal weapons, and a gun. This man was as prepared for a major event like that as any person there could be. He hesitated for 4 minutes. 240 seconds, 240 bullets, 12 dead children before he tried to do anything at all.
The cheeto in chief thinks arming teachers will solve the problem. How in fuck is a social studies teacher supposed to fight off a gunman?
It looks like he was one of four deputies that drew their guns and stayed outside. He was not the only one.
Only nra brainwashed thinks on terms of a "good man with a gun". There is plenty of witness and video evidence of good men with a gun running for cover when something happen.
How many times must we hear the insanity coming from these people that we should no longer be shocked? There is absolutely no rationality in their messages. It is only to promote this gun industry that probably gives millions of dollars to them.
It is the same irrationality that we hear from the religious. It boggles my mind how some of these irrational people can claim to be atheist and still support an idea that is so heavily promoted by religion.
It does not help the whole situation, that any research ( as in trying to assess things scientifically) into the issue has, I hear, been banned. For years. ( scratch head movement ... is there one word for it?) and in the training for armed people, of course, the innocent kids get killed, too. That is the paper cut out kids used for training purposes, not flesh and blood and screams ones. Tough choice to make in a split second ... in a school ... shoot or not shoot. Even for people trained in all this, not the befuddled wood work teacher.
