James O’Brien on LBC had the right answer this morning (2/9/19) about judging the tactic of feigning a no deal in order to get the best deal and the consequences of not getting it right. He said that people make up their mind about the chances of a deal on the basis of their own experiences . Quite a natural thing to do. To give common experiences for a couple of examples. One is for a driver purchasing a new car. The other is for a factory owner buying a new machine tool. Perhaps you could relate your own special experience of deals.

The car owner has probably done their homework and the only unknown is what the lowest price will be.

The factory owner is somewhat different. They additionally have to judge whether the new tool will give a better return on the investment, how much it would cost to retrain the staff, were his customers quite satisfied with the old tool, will his competitors get the new tool.etc etc A factor of difficulty many times that of the car purchaser.

Now let us think of the BREXIT negotiator . Multiply the level of difficulty of the factory owner by the number of businesses in the UK and it ramps up to the millions and billions for consideration.

The main point however is about what effect it would have to walk away from the deal and whether the status quo before the deal was started could be restored.

The motorist could just try the dealer down the road or completely put off the purchase with little consequence.
The factory boss would reject and carry on as before keeping the status quo until things change.

But carrying out a no deal Brexit would affect so many people in a way that would mean that the status quo could never be restored. So many jobs lost.

Of course it is understandable that people make up their minds on their own experience but does that always apply …. As in this situation. One should always consider the costs of restoration in ANY change This post is an invitation to leave it to the politicians and IMO especially past prime ministers or ministers. Not this groups of upstarts with no feeling for the rule of law our precedence.
