Three well known TV personalities of the past have all died today...Clive James - 80, Gary Rhodes - 59, and now Jonathan Millar - 85. How sad..they all entertained us, and were extremely talented in their various fields.

Unfortunately a fate we are all prone to.

Jonathan Miller as well. Only yesterday I listened to an archived R3 discussion that he was involved with about an Egyptian exhibition at The British .Museum from a few years ago.

Yes...a very clever and gifted man. Very sad day, I loved Clive James’s wit and Gary Rhodes was one of the earlier batch of TV chefs...I enjoyed watching all of them at one time.

I remember Gary Rhodes seemed to break out of the standard celeb role. Who did it used to be in the early 70’s. John Carrier or something similar?

@Marionville I saw an interview with Clive James a couple of years ago which was quite a candid interaction. He knew his days were numbered but he had the same vibrance as he did in the 70/80s.

A great loss today!

@Geoffrey51 Robert Carrier I think..yes he was probably one of the earliest...along with Philip Harben, Fanny Craddock and the Galloping gourmet from down under Graham Kerr.

@Geoffrey51 Yes...I loved his shows and his first book was hilarious..Unreliable Memoirs.

@Marionville Oh yes, it was actually Graham Kerr I was thinking of, so thanks for sorting that out!
