England beat Wales. No more to be said really: [walesonline.co.uk]
All those traditional English and Welsh names in the teams.
As far back as when?
@Red_Cat lol - last year?
@FrayedBear Even our "royal" family is of immigrant stock, and so were all the "royals" in our history. I have yet to understand what an English tradition is, or how old a custom must be before we call it a tradition.
@Red_Cat there are some interesting responses at [quora.com]
about when surnames started to used together with the Viking influence in the UK and France from where they came back in 1066.
On tradition I frequently attempt to define it in "Traditional and Folkmusic" .
Does the Yorkshire Cricket team still have the rule that only Yorkshire born can play for the county? That there were large numbers of migrants allowed in after WWII there are many new names that are now evident. I have been absent for more than 40 years and so have missed much of it.
@FrayedBear Thanks for the links. As I mentioned, "royals" are immigrant stock, the prime minister was born in New York and educated partly in Brussels. My own view is that most so called traditions are merely habits.
Free the whales!
Very droll...here is my favourite band singing about them!
A guy walks into a bar and there are two rather large ladies speaking in a accent he doesn't recognise. He says "Where are you girls from, Ireland?". One replies "Wales you idiot". He says "where are you whales from, Ireland". He gets out of hospital in afew days.
no comment!
Don't cry.. It's not really whales being beaten... It's just sports
