It usually takes an unexpected existential crisis to make a person take a thorough personal inventory and rethink who they are and what they are about. Such was my case but even still, making a lasting change was slow in coming. It was not until I discovered that there were other people, a LOT of other people, who were experiencing the same type of thought processes that I was. When I acquired access to previously unknown information to help me make a truly scientifically informed decision, it was only a matter of time before the slow but fine and true wheels of change were set into motion. That huge, and I mean HUGE, paradigm shift from religious believer to non-religious non-believer took a period of years but left a lot of a damage and flotsam in its wake with regard to relationships.

I returned to school at 45, which led to a new career my divorce because my world view changed significantly. I had been considering enrolling in grad school and my parents sent a check to help with my first semester’s tuition. That was the catalyst, ie, no more excuses.
