We Are Nobody
We are nobody but we own things and get
a lot of mail
Every now and then a spotlight is
thrown on to our problems
We become somebody, then things move
on
A circus needs its audience, an
audience needs its freaksWe are nobody but we have buying power
and exist in the aggregate as
metadata:
We are the units that move units
And yet remain unmovedWe are nobody to each other
Until some line is crossed
Some historical inaccuracy
remembered incorrectly
but with certitudeWe are nobody and betray nothing
The bargains have been made
and the devil’s shoddy gods
have lost their gleam, their purposeWe are left immobile but agitated
Something has been lost
We were better back then
Weren’t we?
Our killers were slim serious men
with dark laughing eyes
they had become somebody
BrieflyNow wild eyed crazy
psyches crippled by the media,
stimulants, mood stabilizers;
the deprivations of affluenceNothing they will do will change
anything
Not a mind, a heart or a law
Their crimes are remembered for
location
Their faces become a compositeTheir numbness becomes ours
And lulled by the pain of others
Enriched by their emptiness
We become what we say we hate>
I especially like the first verse
Thanks.
Deep thoughts and profound. I enjoyed this reminded me of what guided me into being a better person and stepping away from the circle of abuse I endured as a youth. Good poem
Wow. Thanks.
Posted by EntheogenFanI wrote this about a crazy girl who I loved like crazy. She made my entire life feel like insanity.
