Black is Black was a worldwide hit in 1966 for the Spanish Band “Los Bravos”…but in France they resisted songs sung in English…only allocating a small percentage of airtime to non- French songs. They had their own Rock and Pop stars in France, and non was bigger than Johnny Hallyday who covered the Los Bravos song in French….I’m posting both versions here for you….

Yes…it was a big hit.
I love this song and I'd never seen the video before. Surprising, because I'm fond of the original, I like it in French as well. Very nice.
