Yoko Kanno (composer), Maaya Sakamoto (vocals): "Light of Love"
from Brain Powerd Original Soundtrack 2
Yoko Kanno is one of my favorite composers, and I love when she works with Maaya Sakamoto, whose voice I think is so pure. But I hadn't heard this, so thank you so much!
@Lauren I've loved this soundtrack since I picked up the CD in a Goodwill store a few years ago, but I never knew the artists until I searched for the song on YouTube today because the credits on the CD are all in Japanese!
Can you recommend other works by Kanno? Did you discover her through your daughter?
@nicestuff What a lucky find! I'm no doubt going to give you way more information than you were looking for. I discovered her through an anime I love - Cowboy Bebop - and then she kept popping up on stuff Sarah likes as well (like Ghost in the Shell which also has multiple soundtracks).
23-Ji no Ongaku (Music of the 23rd Hour) has lots of collaboration with Sakamoto and it’s one of my favorites. I could email you some of these if you’d like.
Cowboy Bebop is jazzy – There are about a dozen soundtrack CDs, but if you only go with two, I recommend the original soundtrack and Cowboy Bebop: Blue.
Song to Fly is quirky and fun.
Be Human is witty and clever.
Then there are lots of soundtracks (she’s really prolific) but I’ll stop now.
It did get posted here too….but I only got notification of the posting in the Music Group for some reason! I don’t think I will ever work out the mysterious ways of this site!
I tried to post it here subsequently and it said I couldn't because it was already posted (elsewhere). So I deleted it there and posted it here. >:0
