We’re here in Ireland today with one of my favourite Irish songs. It’s called the Meeting Of The Waters and it was written as a poem by Thomas Moore in the 19th century and later set to music and recorded as a song, I first sang it in primary school. The poem depicts the beautiful Vale of Avoca in Co. Wicklow, about 25 miles south west of Dublin….and the opening lines go…”There is not in this wide world a valley so sweet; as the vale in who’s bosom the bright waters meet “. It’s sung here by Northern Irish soprano Maureen Hegarty.
