Chopin wrote a series of Etudes for the piano and this one…Etude opus 25 #1 was christened “Aeolian Harp” by his contemporary the German composer Robert Schumann because the rapid arpeggios and harmonic modulations were to him suggestive of the sound the wind would make on the harp. Rumour also goes that Chopin intended it to sound like a flute being played by a shepherd boy taking shelter from the wind in a cave and for that reason it also has the alternative title “Shepherd Boy”. I thought you’d find it interesting to hear it played first on the piano …by Lang Lang…and then actually performed on the harp by English concert harpist Rosanna Rolton.

I love the harp sound.

Yes…it’s a very calming sound I think.

@Marionville It is....hits all the right relax points.

You can never go wrong with Chopin. My ability to compose at will is marred by my incredibly bad sight reading. I'd so love to be able to play Chopin (or Bach) like my eldest brother (who can't compose at will!).
Having known this as a piano piece for most of my life, I am delighted hearing the harp version.

I thought you might like it!

Both are great performances. Although I love music played on a piano I think I like the harp just a bit more.

Yes…I’m pulled towards the harp too.
