Today I’m celebrating the 60th birthday of Magne Furuholmen, keyboardist & songwriter with a-ha who are Norway’s most internationally successful musical exports ever, having to date sold over 100 million records. Magne, who wrote the catchy riff on a-ha’s biggest and best known hit Take On Me when he was 13 or 14, is known affectionately to the fans as Mags, and is also an internationally renowned artist and sculptor with examples of his work on public display in Oslo and cities and towns all over Norway and other parts of the world. He also has a solo music career where he writes and records under his own name, is a record producer for other artists, and he is also part of the Supergroup Appararatjik with Guy Berryman of Coldplay and Jonas Bjerre of Mew.

I’ve chosen one of the songs -Between the Halo and the Horn - which he wrote for a-ha’s new album True North, which was released only last week. First his demo version with his own vocals …and then the finished album version with Morten Harket on vocals.
