The latest Smithsonian magazine had an article of which I think most of us are familiar- Jewish musicians writing and playing music while in a concentration camp. “Songs of Survival” [smithsonianmag.com]
Thx for the heads up & introduction. I've shared the links around the world.
I think the reminder displayed in every Returned Serviceman League club here in Australia is most apt as response - taken from For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon "We will remember them
Lest we forget".
A very interesting and educational article about the musicians and life at Terezin Camp near Prague, I visited it with my husband Peter in the early 2000s, and know something about it’s history. However, I was unaware of the music that was composed there and smuggled out…that is fascinating, and it was very interesting to listen to it.
I too had heard of the camp and the music that was composed there. The article shed a lot more light on this sad episode of our history. More and more this music is being appreciated.
