Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters around in my opinion, and a great frontman for the Rock band Dire Straits from the late 70s when he formed the band. Mark was born in Scotland but moved with his family to Newcastle when he was seven. His father, a Hungarian Jew, was an architect and chess champion who had fled Hungary from the Nazis in 1939. Mark has always identified himself as a “Geordie Lad”, a term for someone from the northeast of England, from Tyneside and Newcastle. However because he was born in Scotland he retains a connection to it too, and in this video for his song - What It Is , he’s chosen to film in and around Edinburgh and the Forth bridges…
