German Lieder is a form of poetry set to music and performed by a solo singer and a pianist which German composers such as Franz Schubert established as a distinct music genre in the early 19th century. In the 20th century German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau became the leading exponent of the lieder and here he sings Schubert’s most famous lied piece “Der Lindenbaum Die Winterreise” accompanied by Alfred Brendel on piano.

Yes…I was happy about that too.
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was very much I a name I heard so often around me in my teens and twenties, What an amazing voice!
