Qawwali is a form of Sufi music popular in northern India and Pakistan. Amir Khusro is considered the father of this form of music. He was a great poet in the Sufi tradition. Typically, these poems start out as a romantic piece and then at the end the lyrics reveal that the love is for God or a teacher. Here is one of his Qawwalis performed by Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad, arranged by Rohill Hyatt. Of course, this is a "fusion", traditional qawwali doesn't use drum kits and synthesizers. I find this rendition very beautiful! In general, Coke Studio is a good place to find such music.

The one singer sounded off key in the first minute or two. But then it improved, the music hit a nice groove, and I found it enjoyable. Do you know what the singer has in his mouth?
