POLITICIAN, n. An eel in the fundamental mud upon which the superstructure of organized society is reared. When he wriggles he mistakes the agitation of his tail for the trembling of the edifice. As compared with the statesman,
he suffers the disadvantage of being alive.

Bierce, Ambrose |bi(ə)rs| (1842– c.1914), US writer, best known for his sardonic short stories that include “An Occurrence at Owk Creek Bridge” (1891) and his satirical treatment of the English language in The Devil’s Dictionary (1911); full name Ambrose Gwinnett Bierce. In 1913, he traveled to Mexico and mysteriously disappeared.

A selfie on my 1st outing after my brothers death..I needed to spruce up and enjoy my life again..and thanks.
@Charlene Strangely my bros death twenty years ago was the only one that affected me - it was unexpected and I selfishly had hoped that one day we would have a normal adult brotherly relationship. Until it mattered we were like cat and dog and barely tolerated each other.
Noticing, the bear may be frayed but the eyes still work. I hope that you had a great time and were able to resume normalcy...whatever that is that works for you. ?
@FrayedBear it was a good time..I got to spend 19 months with my brother before he died..it wasn't easy, but we grew closer..it's gonna take a while to regain my normal state of living..whatever that turns out to be...lol

The book "Diabolical Definitions" Ambrose Bierce was in my hand. It is simply definitions from his "Devils Dictionary" which I have had for many years on the computer. I think it is obtainable from Gutenburg Library or Archive.com.
That's a very complex definition lol I had to read it twice.
