Capitalism vs. Socialism: A Soho Forum Debate
Richard Wolff takes on the libertarians in this debate. I found it quite interesting how this Gene Epstein spent a great deal of his time in what seemed an attack mode of Wolff rather than much time on the issue of capitalism. And on attempting to suggest to the audience that Wolff had betrayed his narrative in one of his books. Epstein also made a lot of remarks in agreement with Wolff.
You might ask what the difference is between republicans/conservatives, democrats, and libertarians is. Well, my interpretation would be that republicans and democrats are basically collaborate in a type of state corporate communism in which this structure attempts to mask within a false perception of a free market that they govern towards being fair for all of society to benefit from. Libertarians on the other hand are even fairly more open about privatization while reducing social programs which gives corporations more power essentially within the same structure. The bottom line though is that you really can't have either socialism or capitalism without the other without someone or a small group having essentially total power. Wolff argues we in the US are waking out of a 75 year hibernation towards finding a better balance within the long experiment of communism/socialism within Marxism since his workings.
