Hunger

The war in Ukraine has been catastrophic for world food prices, writes Vijay Prashad. But the problem didn’t start then.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, or UNICEF, reports that, every minute, a child is pushed into hunger in 15 countries most ravaged by the global food crisis.

Twelve of these countries are in Africa (from Burkina Faso to Sudan), one is in the Caribbean (Haiti) and two are in Asia (Afghanistan and Yemen). Wars without end have degraded the ability of the state institutions in these countries to manage cascading crises of debt and unemployment, inflation and poverty. Joining the two Asian countries are the states that make up the Sahel region of Africa (especially Mali and Niger), where the levels of hunger are now almost out of control. As if the situation were not sufficiently dire, an earthquake struck Afghanistan last week, killing over a thousand people – yet another devastating blow to a society where 93 percent of the population has slipped into hunger.

Recent reports--EU to cut relief funding efforts in parts of Africa to fund more weapons in Ukraine. It will get worse!

{The world food market was already stressed before the conflict in Ukraine, with prices going up during the pandemic to levels that many countries had not seen before. However, the war has almost broken this weakened food system. The most significant problem is in the world fertilizer market, which was resilient during the pandemic but is now in a crisis: Russia and Ukraine export 28 percent of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer as well as 40 percent of the world’s exports of potash, while Russia by itself exports 48 percent of the world’s ammonium nitrate and 11 percent of the world’s urea.}

Ukraine Is the Latest Neocon Disaster

The war in Ukraine is the culmination of a 30-year project of the American neoconservative movement. The Biden administration is packed with the same neocons who championed the U.S. wars of choice in Serbia (1999), Afghanistan (2001), Iraq (2003), Syria (2011), Libya (2011), and who did so much to provoke Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

No, it's simply another aspect of collaboration between western governments towards the annihilation of Russia so they can get their greedy hands on their resources that has been going on for since WWl. The first road block was Russia's development of the atomic bomb. The second road block was when Putin stuck his foot up the asses of Yeltsin and Clinton when they thought they ushered in what they believed would be a good puppet for western corporate pillaging. Which he quickly put a stop to when he realized what they had intended for his country.

This is one of three reasons JFK was assassinated over. He refused to invade Cuba going against the constant pressures of the CIA. He became utterly sickened when they presented him with the agenda for Russia that had been in the works since WWll, having changed operation names multiple times. He had a good relationship with the Russian president during his era. And he was working towards upsetting the agendas of the ruling class that have been controlling the world ever since. Bobby fell for compliantly being his partner.

{The main message of the neocons is that the U.S. must predominate in military power in every region of the world and must confront rising regional powers that could someday challenge U.S. global or regional dominance, most important Russia and China. For this purpose, U.S. military force should be pre-positioned in hundreds of military bases around the world and the U.S. should be prepared to lead wars of choice as necessary. The United Nations is to be used by the U.S. only when useful for U.S. purposes.}

I would, and have multiple times, suggested everyone ponder on who those bases protect. Who's purposes they protect? What power structure womb did this baby crawl out from? If you really think the US is the only country with the only wealthy who find this baby useful for, I'll argue, and have multiple times, you're missing the big picture. Be careful of the propaganda message being sent here! If or when the shit really hits the fan, someone has to take the blame. And I bet all fingers will be pointed at us while all the rest who have been benefiting right along will be more than happy to sacrifice us. America started as a colony, and I argue we still are a colony.

{The most likely outcome of the current fighting is that Russia will conquer a large swath of Ukraine, perhaps leaving Ukraine landlocked or nearly so. Frustration will rise in Europe and the U.S. with the military losses and the stagflationary consequences of war and sanctions.}

!News Flash! Frustration in Europe has been a thing from February and growing. There's a large part of the citizenship there who aren't so acceptable to funding and supporting a fascist genocide waging country, or at all happy with the never ending inflation. I highly suggest you start observing RT's International news show where you can find the reactions to Europe on the Ukraine war and see inside the war from the on the ground documentary shows.
