How The West and Its Allies Sabotaged Venezuela
More to the story is that the majority of money owed by Venezuela is to China. Who Chavez worked with extensively with oil trade. The price drop from flooding the market is indeed a measure of their economical issue today. So is the border between Venezuela and Columbia, often not mentioned. Where black market works is another issue. Colombian's can cross the border and find cheaper prices on certain products to take back and resell. Especially fuel. This isn't just a Venezuela issue either, it's also an issue for Iran. The Saudi's flooded the market with oil as an attempt to cripple both these countries when they were able to put oil on the market. Once the sanctions came off for Iran their goal was to update oil technology and production. The crash extremely harming that goal and Venezuela's ability to pay its creditors. Now under Trump with the revitalization of sanctions, what's happened? Oil prices are back up. They haven't reached the Bush Jr's era because Trump is pushing to allow the fracking industry and tar sands into play. Who should be bitching? China and Columbia. China is no dummy, they know the game all to well. They'll patiently wait it out for a good trading partner. They're not hurting for the money. Columbia's puppet government relies on the US for its present oppression of its people, so what's a little black market matter to help destabilize Venezuela. As long as they can keep provoking a possible border war towards a false narrative for the US they have a win situation.
