Mission Was Accomplished
WWII? It was said by Smedley Darlington Butler, a WWI veteran and in a handful of other military actions, that war is a racket. Also a book. [en.wikipedia.org] He also went on to claim that wealthy businessmen were plotting to create a fascist veterans' organization with him as its leader and use it in a coup d'état to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was called the Business Plot [en.wikipedia.org] I guess the question, at least I find myself often wondering, did these cabal finally persuade FDR towards relenting? It's tough enough today to see where we are as a country and the harm we do to other societies. Educated to believe a history I now see mostly as a lie. We fought that which we now have become!?! Was Pearl Harbor a planed means to draw us into a war we then wanted to avoid, quite unfavorable to the American public to get involved with during that time? I questioned that again last weekend as I thought about my step father, and again yesterday as I took to his grave a new WWII marker placing the Navy Flag within it. I can only wonder how he would see his country today as he served mainly in the south pacific during that war. His ship went through many battles suffering extensive damages at times. How do intelligent combat military personal come to a decision to bunch almost the entire Pacific Fleet into one harbor knowing a possible enemy is coming? While executing only a dozen search plans to cover a vast ocean for warning. Were the only submarines in the vicinity Japanese? Yes, mission accomplished. Just not the one we would believe was accomplished.
