I have been using hemp hearts to increase my protein intake for many years. Besides he obvious advantages of getting plenty of protein, I have also found that if I get more protein it is much easier to control my weight. I typically mix six tablespoons of hemp hearts with my steel cut oats in the morning. Six tablespoons of hemp hearts contains about twenty grams of protein.

I add hemp hearts to many foods, but I realize recently that I have not been adding it as often.. I do eat oatmeal for breakfast, I will start adding the hemp hearts again in the morning. I also add chia seeds when I cook the oatmeal. It helps keep me very regular. 🙂 During the hotter months I mix oatmeal with fruit puree and a few other ingredients and refrigerate at least over night. I make my week day breakfasts on the weekend and store in the fridge for consumption during the week. Currently I nuke the oatmeal while I fix breakfast for the kitties.

I too use the microwave to cook steel cut oats when I feed my cat 🙂
I also put about a tablespoon of red palm oil in the oats/hemp heart mix. I like the taste and I think that red palm oil also has benefits.
