Why do people say "I'll pray for you"?

I have an illness I will soon be obtaining treatment for. I have had to recently inform business associates and some tell me they are praying for me. It drives me crazy. I generally say, don't bother. I honestly feel like they are saying that my illness is putting them out. Sometimes I feel like saying "I won't be praying for you". Am I wrong? Is this just my own crazy pet peeve? Or should I just not respond? I just can't bring myself to say "Thank you."

Just thank them, Positive energy, if they actually send you any, does help heal, as the placebo effect shows.
