I quite like fiction, but you can be as selective as you choose in what you read. There is a whole lot out there that's commentary on society, or any other issue you can think of. It's also not a bad thing to be able to practice some escapism from what isn't an ideal reality.

I dropped science fiction after the 80's. Not missed. No superheroes in tights, no marvel or dc comix, no aliens or super spies. Not dreaming with a future when I am enjoying the present. I am Now. When I want to read fiction.... I write a romantic poem to a woman. Got no problem with my fiction.
