'Drill rap gang banned from making music without police permission in legal first' - The Independant 15 June 2018.

The background to the story is related to gang violence in London.

At what point is artistic censorship acceptable or not at all?

I think the increased violence in England is due to the drastic cuts the police departments have suffered under the knife of the Tory government.

England has hate speech laws which enable this kind of censorship. The Independent article also includes the statement:

“This isn’t going to address the issues that lead to the creation of this kind of music, nor should we be creating a precedent in which certain forms of art – which include violent images or ideas – are banned. We need to tackle actual violence, not ideas and opinions.”

It is the often made fundamental mistake of treating the symptom rather than the disease.

John Lennon comes to mind.

“Musical innovation is full of danger to the State, for when modes of music change, the fundamental laws of the State always change with them.”

― Plato, The Republic

This applies to all creative expression equally, it is why the state has always tried to control taste and creativity.

Nice one Len. So true.
