About this website; you earn website points, and help other members get to know you better, when you write an informational profile that includes your hobbies and interests, and answer all the profile questions, since that's the first place many people look when they see a new member.

Also, the website uses your profile to find member matches, so the more details you include, the better the match.

Then you make comments and write your own posts to earn more points and privileges; for instance, at level two you can private email people. You get different perks with each level, and when you reach level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt.

It's really just an indication of how active they've been on the site. A Level 1 user is very new whereas a Level 2 user has made a few posts and comments and thus amassed some points, with increasing levels coming as a user participates more.

It seems a bit Scientologist at first glance, but there's logic to it: posts by users at the lower end need to be approved before they appear on the forums, and there are limits to how many private messages can be sent until a user reaches a certain level when it's considered they've invested enough time in the site that they're probably not going to start trolling or otherwise causing trouble. All in all, it works very well - although the site has grown quickly, it remains refreshingly free of trolls, bullies, perves and others who might abuse the site or other members, and allows the site to remain free-to-use.
