"Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another."

Wow, this quotation is the first line of my Bio, I love it's Humanist sentiment..to live and let live..to also convey a human's significance in the Cosmos..as well as our total insignificance....

Note for those arguing the validity of the quote and how it ignores abhorant behavior: the quote is "in the cosmic perspective, precious". I read that yo mean that every molecule is precious, not the assemblage. To know my molecules at death may make their way into far away galaxies and to know my molecules may have an atom or two that Sophocles once used is pretty precious. Cosmically precious. I'm not precious, the process is. Not my word choice. IMHO

We are star dust. ?

I was a huge fan of both Cosmose, and Carl Sagan himself. I also really liked the remake with D. Neil Degrasse Tyson. Both were very good

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star stuff”. – Carl Sagan

I haven't seen Carl Sagan's Cosmos but I have watched Neil Degrassi Tyson's a few times. Excellent show that puts things in perspective..

Precisely true words

I hope whatever might be out there is better than humans. Surely the whole Universe can't be as fucked up as this place! ☺

@Stacey48 On the other hand, what if we are the best! ?

@Stacey48 l am so sorry. Please forgive me. LOL

That is incredibly beautiful, and it makes you realize just how small we are compared to the observable universe...

Yep ... I stopped killing my enemies awhile ago.

I love Sagan...but, damn, that is some serious "every snowflake is special" shit. There are humans that are utter garbage and, if the situation is severe enough, not only do we "disagree" with their actions but we also throw their asses in jail...sometimes for life. Also, some humans are so heinous that society has no choice but to end their life. Therefore, I object to assessing every life as "precious" just because it is unique.

@Stacey48 sorry, didn’t realize there were people here who loved murderers, war criminals, rapists, and pedophiles. So, then, does Hitler qualify as precious for you? Feel free to block me...or is passive aggressive bitchiness always your style?

@Stacey48. You seem rude. I agree with SS. Not all people are good.

I love Sagan but I would say, in regards to that quote, that every one of us is a miracle but hardly precious. Once you do [those things on your list] you are no longer precious but a genetic malfunction that should be removed from society.

I’ve never seen someone triggered by a Carl Sagan quote...
