If a person on welfare does not have a GED should they be required to obtain one while on welfare? I believe it would benefit the welfare person.in addition I believe every person should be capable of some type of work (bring back the WPA). Finally I feel any welfare receiver who has a child should identify the father for support!
Seems to me that need should be the only thing that is necessary for welfare, other programs need to be triggered once need is establish so, that welfare is a hand up not out. If the US is anything like Canada the courts are responsible for child support not the social safety net.
They should know who the father is. Support for the child is often taken by the father for his own support. This is why he has children with a number of women. This is terrible but if we name the father the government can come after him.and hopefully reduce the number of incidents like this. Many of the welfare rolls are uneducated women who left school when they were pregnant or men who just dropped out unwisely. It is more likely to get these people off welfare if they have some education. Those who just cannot do the work fall into another class.
@Marine , do you have evidence for that statement? Or is it just more conservative nonsense. In Canada child support is in the hands of the courts.
Sadly I have seen evidence as my family has worked in police work and had to chase these men. They will take from five or six women to live on. PS i am more liberal than many on this site.
@Marine , you live in a very different nation, I guess, here a woman goes to office of th court makes an application and based on they income gets their legal free or for very little and child support is ordered by the courts, once that happens and it doesn't get paid the delinquent parent finds they can no longer renew their vehicle, drivers license or anything else controlled by registries. It has proven very effective.
