Just wondering about veganism- because of a really zealous and super opinionated new friend of mines, I want to at least look into it from other's POV who may be vegan. How did you make the transition from eating meat to not eating meat; what's been the toughest food to give up? How has it benefited you personally, i.e mentally, emotionally, sexually and physically (looks, etc) Are you still tempted from time to time? Are you the zealous in your face type or are you more low-key and only talk about it when asked?
One of my closest friends is a very good vegan, so is her son. When she visits I am very careful and only serve her completely vegan meals.
However when I went to visit her last year, she asked for meal suggestions. I suggested roast lamb, but she didn't provide it. I must admit, I am in transition, eating meat about once a month and only when at other peoples places, we have cut down on buying all sorts of animal products.
I feed my dog and cat meat, Nothing is straight forward.
@Stepmomofdragons I give her a hard time, but wouldn't expect it of her. Just my general joke with vegetarians and vegans. I am becoming a passive semi vegetarian, won't complain about a meat meal, eating meat is natural, but I will do what I can to reduce it in my household.
From an ecological/environmental standpoint it makes perfect sense. From the perspective of my digestive tract not so much. Tried vegan for about 2-3 yrs. and even with massive amounts of various digestive aids got tired of the gas and explosive and unpredictable diarrhea.
Vegan 8 years and never looked back. What got me making the change was the inconsistency in the thinking that it’s wrong to eat cats and dogs but ok to eat pigs and cows. They are all animals. Are we so arrogant as to label some animals companions and others food based on our arbitrary desires. I did not become vegan for health reasons. But I am healthier, stronger, full of energy. It takes time to learn to live vegan (it’s not just about food) but once you get the hang of it, it’s a joyous way of life. I do not crave any meats, dairy, eggs, or any animal products. I don’t really push veganism to my friends but I think it’s fair to share facts and research materials on my social media pages. I also love to share recipes of delicious easy to make vegan foods to show one can enjoy a variety of wonderful dishes without using animal products. It can be challenging for new vegans but there is a lot of support from longtime vegans and a lot of resources available for those interested.
Easy. Over 35yrs ago, I was asked a simple question in a non-confrontational manner : if you love animals, how can you eat them ? Being a sucker for logic, the next day, it was done. Never looked back.
Feel great, rarely ever get sick - even a cold, and never tempted.
I try to remain low key, and respect others' choices - though I have gently "converted" a couple of folks along the way, by example ...

@Stepmomofdragons exactly - calf growth fluid - meant to be nutrient dense, and to put on weight rapidly ! Besides the cruelty to dairy cows, dairy products cause a great deal of allergies and illnesses in humans. Ick.
My vegan hiking partner, Karen, loves to lecture me on the superiority of her diet. (eye roll ) Otherwise, she's a great hiking partner.
I murmur, "Hmm... that's interesting...didn't know that...uh, huh.. " until she runs down.
