I'm learning to embrace it. I know the company is good. There are no unexpected or unreasonable demands. I don't have to be careful to avoid being inconsiderate. No one is offended if I pass gas or clean between my toes. I think I just need to learn to appreciate the state of being alone more. Everyone appreciates me there.
@Akfishlady If I am alone and not everyone appreciates me there .. that is something I can work on.
It adds beauty to life by making the lonely into artists of sorts. There’s causal links that the loneliest of people tend to do random acts of kindness to facilitate others being less lonely because they empathize with that feeling and don’t want others to suffer.
I had to look Henry Rollins up as I hadn’t heard of him. So it is actually he with whom I disagree about the definition of loneliness. He has used a sort of self imposed solitude which isn’t all the same thing.
I was going to question his definition of loneliness, as well. I agree with you. Solitude and loneliness are not the same.
I believe you are mistaking solitude for loneliness. Loneliness is a terrible thing and when we find someone who suffers it we should do all we can to become their friend. Loneliness is a terrible thing for anyone to endure and can lead to mental illness and suicide. Solitude us quite different and it can heighten our capacity to appreciate the beauty of nature and our enjoyment of music.
It can do, but only when you have the option to end the loneliness when you've had enough - otherwise, it's crushing. That's a gorgeous photo; is it yours?
@Akfishlady Stunning
@Akfishlady Wait - they have an "annual 5-day music festival held in mid-September that celebrates the music of Django Reinhardt"? I'm buying tickets already!
@Akfishlady I'm up for it - and exploring the rest of the island now I've seen more photos. The cliffs near Fort Casey look worth seeing!
