I have always had a fondness for the 4th of July. I know it is naïve to hope people in this country can put their ideologies aside and remember we are one people, in one nation, on one planet, in one galaxy. That we share this 6 foot offset on this third rock from the sun. It is my wish that we grow past the pettiness of our egos and live for the common good of all. Reality makes it hard to hold onto this, but I rather hold hope than throw the baby out with bath water. Peace ✌?

I would go one step further and stop at "one species, one planet", without including the artificial boundaries of nationhood. We know religion is surplus to requirements, but so is ideology, and race, and so many other things that divide us.

What you are asking for is like being handed a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle on a raft that is floating down Niagara river about 15 minutes from the Falls, and asked to complete it. It's a nice sentiment nonetheless.

It's a reminder of how far the country has fallen recently.

The 4th is a very optimistic kind of holiday and that's why I like it.
