Are you a Humanist too?
I guess you would need to define what you mean by humanist to get a clear answer to that question. Someone below said that humanists put themselves above animals and that's not the definition that I know.
Here is the definition google gave me: "an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems."
It has man above supernatural or divine rather than man above animals. I'm a humanist.
Yes this definition resonates with me. I am a humanist.
Too?
As in addition to something else?
Or as in you are also a Humanist?
Humanist Code of Ethics
"Do no harm to the earth, she is your mother.
Being is more important than having.
Never promote yourself at another’s expense.
Hold life sacred; treat it with reverence.
Allow each person the digity of his or her labor.
Open your home to the wayfarer.
Be ready to receive your deepest dreams;
sometimes they are the speech of unblighted conscience.
Always make restitutions to the ones you have harmed.
Never think less of yourself than you are.
Never think that you are more than another."
~ Arthur Dobrin
Yes, I am a Humanist, and a non theist and most of all a free-thinker . Above all I am a living, breathing , sentient human being. I am an individual and yet a herd animal. It is nice to be here on this site with other similar minded folk, but I find it interesting that we all are still individuals and this is reflected in the differences of opinions and the subtle nuances in terminology and ideas we use in these posts. I suppose what we do all have in common is the rejection of religious dogma and the application of critical thought.
Absolutely. Not so I can adhere to some dogmatic doctrine, but because I came across a statement of belief that described me accurately.
Sort of, except that I see the environment and wildlife on an equal par with the supposed interests of mankind, or even more so.
It is not contradictory to humanist belief to cherish all living things.
