I notice that when the term 'religion' is used at this forum it, in most instances, refers to Christianity. Christianity is only one of the six World Religions not to mention the myriad of minor religions and indiginous concepts and practices. Perhaps it might be possible, to give posts more credence, to name the specific religion when referred to.

I think it is because most if us have some sort of first hand knowledge of Christianity, whereas we only know of other religions by reading and hearing reports. Also, christian beliefs are impinging on our everyday lives when right wing politicians persist in imposing their religious beliefs on the electorate.

Thanks for that. It frequently seems that comments are religion bashing which seems quite unrealistic but for those in the richly populated Christian areas it makes sense and this forum seems an ideal place to vent. Apologies for my insensitivity on the matter.

The other religions have no real impact on my day to day life.

Makes sense to me.

There are 4,200 religions in the world. Where did you get 6 from?

Right on, but I thought it was only 4,000. They're all brainwashing

Academically, there are six with the classification World Religions, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sihkism. and as you say thousands of others, many of which are subgroups of these six

@Matias Quite agree. Sihkism was only elevated to a World Religion relatively recently but not sure when, I can't find s reference but I've not looked too hard. I always thought the number of World Religions was five until I did further study in 2003.
