My mother is getting a little demented at 85. She told me that her United Methodist Church Baptized her stupid English Springer Spaniel. ( If you really hate somebody gift them with one). I'm not poorly educated on religion, just don't believe in it. Animals having souls is a heresy. So I contacted the Seat of the United and asked if it was OK with them. Not heard a word back OR had Mom call me ripping mad. Waiting. Not apologizing, she would do the same to me if there was any place to complain to about non believers.

If it's an English Springer Spaniel shouldn't it be attending the Anglican Church?

One would think. When Mom told me the mutt was baptized I got really specific with her. Don't you mean blessed? Nope, she meant they used water, F, S & HG, and she has a certificate. I was Episcopalian AND well read, and thought I understood that was a heresy settled in Trent. Animals do not have souls. I don't either and it's never bothered me. I was baptized, though. I wonder why I didn't steam like vampires do ? BaHaHaHaHaHa

Some churches do annual blessings of animals. It does no harm and it's kind of sweet. If your mother is developing dementia it's easy to how she could become confused. My father developed it in his last years and it's heartbreaking.

Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. 20 All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust.

You only get one mother try to make peace, she won’t live forever. Even embrace the dog if need be. It’s not her fault if she is confused, too much religion sometimes has that affect!

Aw, hey, she's 85. That should give her some breaks. Besides, it may have happened. My grandmother once came from (Catholic) church and said the priest believes heaven and hell are on Earth right here, right now. Hard to argue when I thought he was closer to right than the official church was ... I just let it go.
