Why is this site a ".com" rather than ".org" or ".net"? The dot.com suffix usually implies a commercial or business (for-profit) endeavor. If that is the purpose of this website, why is that the purpose?
Well, if you suddenly get hit with a lot of unsolicited advertisements you may have made a point. Later, if we see advertisements pop up on screen then there will be reason enough to think that it is being financed by those who want to advertise here and we may view it as a commercial venture but doubt it somehow.
The ".org" extension could be purchased by any organization just as a non-profit can own a ".com" (like we do). One of our purpose is simply to provide a nice space for people to interact. No ads, no prophet, non-profit. Welcome!
