I love this perspective on relationship: true & hilarious at once. "most adults look like adults."
Thank you for sharing this! Mr. Botton mentions psychoanalysis in his speech and I agree with his use of it in reference to how we should understand "love" (a four-letter word!). We are NOT adults when it comes to love, we are children with some never resolved "injuries". Well done!
thank you for taking the time to listen to this.
SOOOO true. I put the link to the YouTube video on Twitter.
thank you for spreading the message - i got it from fakebook
Agree, and well said, I wish I could explain myself so that people can understand.
This guy does it well.
thank you for understanding the dilemma. & even if you are well able to explain yourself, it doesn't mean that everyone understands. people's senses are receiving the message through their own emotional filters... mostly.
@walklightly Exactly! Even if someone else can explain themselves, we are still seeing them through our own "colored" glasses. "Well, I thought when you said such-and-such, you meant blah, blah!"
@I_dont_know, precisely! we will never be absolutely sure of being understood; the more important it is to keep communicating in a gentle & forgiving, if you will, more detached, way.
Brilliant historical context thanks for sharing. The idea of idealized romantic love fits well into my own understanding of narrative identity (and its faults)
you're welcome, & thank you for your interest & understanding.
