Has anyone played a musical instrument?

I 'played' trumpet, with no practice, for 5 years. Ugh
Sadly, I hated every minute. I wanted to be able to play like Herb Alpert.

It's ok to me if you say Skin Flute. LOL!

I took piano lessons as a child, then I played the coronet in middle and high school bands. I took some guitar lessons as an adult years ago, including more recently a Coursera guitar course. Just this weekend I started taking flute (instrument, not skin. lol) lessons through Udemy. I think I made pretty good progress over the long weekend. I don't expect to ever play like Ian Anderson, but hopefully I can make some decent music.

I play guitar and piano. Dabble with other instruments like bass, violin, harmonica, banjo and drums. Sing a little. Piano was my first instrument. Spent most of my time learning guitar though and is the only instrument I can say I am good at.

Lessee played viola for 8 years, alto saxophone for 4 (regretted quitting that, especially in high school) guitar, piano

To be honest I played these instruments and I studied these instruments, but I'm not good at them. Except guitar I was really good for self taught and losing my use of my shoulders 6 months later.

Piano here... used my music reading skills to join marching and concert band when I tired of being a flag girl. Joined percussion and ended up having to play all sorts of instruments.

Since 4th grade, I have played flute: jazz, blues and classical music.

For years on Saturdays, I had private lessons from the first flute of the Detroit Symphony. My father, a professional jazz musician, drove me to Detroit for the lessons.

Won the Michigan State Solo and Ensemble competition in the 7th grade, playing "Serenade" by Joseph Haydn as a flute solo.

In high school, I was first flute in orchestra, band and marching band.

For two years, played jazz at the University of Michigan Jazz Workshop through the Afro American Studies Dept. I had the only white face.

Helped pay for my bachelor degree by giving flute lessons.

Wow! Just, Wow! You never fail to amaze me, Kathleen! 😮

Played baritone in junior high. I still remember the fingerings and notes, although it would take a little work to read music again. I would like to get a horn to play. Maybe even try to find some folks to play with. I quit band because of all the competition b.s. and compulsory attendance of football games and marching.

I also started playing guitar when I was a teenager. I still pick that up and play from time to time.

Awesome!

I didn't mind the football games, but I was NOT going to march unless forced. One of the reasons why I picked the bassoon. I still got my band letter on my jacket and didn't have to march for it.

@kiramea I hate you! 😛 haha
The competition probably bothered me more. The stupid crap about seats. Traveling around the region competing against other bands. I hated all that stuff. I wanted to play for people. When I was in elementary, they took us on field trips to listen to a symphonic orchestra. I thought it was so cool. That's what I wanted.

@bingst A lot of that I didn't do because I was the only bassoon player (never had to compete for seats). I still went to contest, but when I played I either played in an ensemble or in the band itself. I wouldn't do solo because I hated playing by myself. I also didn't mind competing with other bands, but then again I looked at it as playing for someone and not a judge.

I played the bassoon in junior high and high school. Haven't picked up one in over 30 years, but I'm sure I would remember something.

Yay! I love that bassoon sound! The emotional expression! Nothing like it!

I have "played" around with the guitar most of my life but never learned to play. I basically played C, G7, F and a few other chords to accompany my singing C&W songs as a teen. One of my life regrets is that I did not take piano lessons as a child.

1

I still play lap dulcimer, penny whistle and mandolin.

Cool! I love the dulcimer! Beautiful sound! Popular here in Kentucky!

2

Alto sax from 5th grade to freshman year of college.

Wow! I love that Saxophone sound!

Played drums when I still went to church when I was younger. Picked up a guitar at 20 and never looked back.

Drums and guitar, awesome!

@JohnINFP my guitar has taken me all Over the US and Europe. I’m almost 35 but I haven’t put it down since I picked it up when I was 20. It’s my zen time.
