Is anyone else addicted to reading or listening to audio books? I don't have a lot of free time to spend with actual books but I love listening to them while I drive to and from work. I just started Magic 2.0 book 5 today. This series is hilarious!

Glad you can still enjoy them!

My preference is reading regular turn-the-page books, but I have gone through a few books on cd's. They are particularly good for moderate to long work commutes; they make the drive seem very short.

The 80’s version audiobooks of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series is hilarious

I've been wanting to do this. I'd like something I can learn from though. Not just stories. 🙂

I typically alternate from story to educational.

Since early childhood, I have been a voracious reader.

I used to spend hours every day driving for work, and listened to the all the time then. Now that I'm retired though, I just do regular reading

I love audio books. I have over 500 on my phone. Its a nice way to read when you are doing something boring like cleaning or waiting somewhere. Yesterday, I finished Mike Meyers Canada -very entertaining. i live in Buffalo and can see Canada so it was especially funny.
I used ti drive from Buffalo to Albany - 300 of the most boring miles in the state - audio books made the trip tolerable.

Books are addictive, thank Athena there's a 12 step program...at my library.

A 12 step program huh? Is that 1. Fiction 2. Non Fiction 3. Periodicals...?

Absolutely. I love to read but cannot find time to devote to it with my busy schedule, so I've taken to an Audible subscription. I have not regretted it. Years ago I started a King Arthur series by Jack Whyte. Life got in the way right around the time of the final book of the series, so it remained unfinished. By the time I got into audiobooks I had to (and wanted to) start the series over again. While this one has been great, the downside to audiobooks is the potential for a terrible voice actor. A great story can be obscured by the wrong choice of actor.

I can't listen to audio books and drive at the same time.... 😕

My son is dyslexic, so we do a lot of audiobooks. Otherwise, I'd have to spend every waking moment reading to him. Luckily our homeschool curriculum includes a lot of literature I find interesting, too, because I rarely get to listen to "my" books. I do read a lot, too though.

I do audio books when I take long trips.

1

Yes, especially when I'm driving. I just finished "I'll be gone in the dark " . It was really interesting...

I can't do talk radio or have someone reading while I drive. It puts me right to sleep. I want music and usually upbeat.

It keepsme from having road rage in Nashville traffic.

I've been listen to audio books for about 15 years or so. I find that even a book that would put me to sleep if I were to read it, can be enjoyed if someone is reading it to me. Luke Daniels, the narrator for Magic 2.0 is my favorite. You should listen to the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne. Luke narrates that one too.

Iron Druid huh? Haven't heard of that one before. I have a few credits to use, I might just check it out.

I took your advice and listened to book one. I immediately got book 2 when I finished it! So I don't give any spoilers, I love how it reminded me of American Gods.

Youtube has a lot of freebie audio books.

Yes.

Check out the Bobiverse trilogy, I highly recommend.

I am addicted to books, particularly Arthurian Literature in any form. One and a half of my four book cases is filled with tales of King Arthur and his knights from nearly every perspective. This is one addiction I will not be giving up. At most, I have bought an iPad in order to save some space by buying ebooks instead and I’d be cool with audio but I still have to have the traditional book in order to satisfy my addiction.

I love recorded books.

I love audiobooks. My small town library doesn’t have a lot to choose from but I can order them in if I’m patient LOL…

Audio books are great for yard work. And, much better than music for walking/running/driving::: but only during low traffic areas. Talking aloud can draw attention.

I have listened to a bunch of Jane Austin. Tomorrow i intend to get a bunch of Harris, and Perel.

I use an Olympus recorder/player to listen. Also use it for in car time for notes about projects.
I then use Dragon to attempt to transcribe. The results are not perfect. And often amusing. But, still worth it.
