Very disturbing news from my horsey friends in Norway and northern Europe. They are having a drought/heat wave like nothing ever experienced in their lifetimes. [newsinenglish.no]
People are asking my veterinarian friend what kinds of weeds and brush they can cut for feed because there is no hay available. Horses are being put on hay fields to scavenge what they can. Agriculture is becoming increasingly more difficult due to climate change. My heart goes out to those who will go without to pay exorbitant prices to feed their beloved horses with imported hay.
NPR did a story about climate change in the North last year. On the program, a biologist was describing how the ice and snow reflected solar energy and heat, but as temperatures have been rising, the snow and ice have been receding, leaving bogs, fields, and plants, the emergence of which has led to absorption of the energy that was previously reflected. This has, in turn, contributed to the warming trend and brought about wildfires in Greenland. The smoke from these fires then further traps heat. Scary ramifications!
Record temps everywhere. Japan hit 103 - 105, in cities. 20 degrees above normal.
Ireland has been getting whomped.
Same here in mid-michigan. Drought and heat. No fun.
@CrazyQuilter Been getting ready to remove more grass. It being dead is nice. But i don't like the color much.
