It was a good time to be alive!~ Unfortunately, we did not accomplish enough social and cultural change for the age to persist. The fear of many in seeing the culture they knew going away scared the hell out of them and they reacted with the very things we were trying to get rid of -- racism, ethnocentrism, reactionary thought and action, anger and fear. That led to Nixon, Reagan, the culture of greed and the political disaster we are dealing with today.

I grew up in the 60s when the movements were starting. It seems though that the other side and those who didn't follow or appreciate change have taken over. I believe as @Ride_Captain asserts that somehow we failed in educating our children properly. I hope we don't have to start over or that every advance over the last century is lost.

It turned out that the media's perception of the Baby Boom generation was completely wrong. Sure the most vocal among that generation was all about Peace, Love, Rock and Roll with a Koombya while teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony. The 80s proved that the American Boomers were really just libertarian to the point of being nearly completely self centered and selfish. Amorality became the new morality

@gearl my rant was only half finished

The hippies of the 60s became the self appointed "Masters of the Universe Yuppies" in the 80s. The current aged, dotard, POTUS. Is the perfect legacy for the Boomer Generation, which will go down in history as the hardest working, ambitious, ego driven, self deluding generation in American History. Fortunately, the offspring which resulted from their 2nd and 3rd marriages merged with the X-Gen offspring to create a gigantic Millennial Generation which is superior in everyway to its 2 generational predecessors.
