I guess a successful "businessman" means somebody who can leverage their own position to do well out of the situation regardless of how much the business itself (along with its investors and employees) gains or loses. I'm sure the net worth he had access to increased with every one of those repossessions and bankrupcies.

The easiest way to make a lot of money is to go bankrupt, but you have to have a lot first. It just moves from one hand to the other. Does not work for those who are really in debt , stops the problem, but does not make anything easier.
