I have stood for those values I do believed in, that's equality and justice for ALL, even for those I disagreed with. But lately, I am puzzled with the hysteria of using pronouns of "they, theirs, them" representing an individual, I think, it should be illegal especially during judicial proceedings for an ind individual to use " "they, theirs, them" as an indication of identity. Imagine, if you are a judge,lawyer--how will you handle such scenarios, it's very confusing. I hope,I am not branded a homophobic or "genderphobic". This is so confusing, when do you know that now you are referring to a singular person or plural. I want a pro-LGBTQ solicitor/attorney to help me understand this.
What do you prefer? Something gender specific? I've come across no such hysteria...yet.
I use "them" and "they" "us" and "we" as ways to avoid sounding like I'm personally attacking someone... especially in a comment. If I say "you" it looks like I'm talking about you when it's much broader than that.
Language is a living thing, and it's complicated. And without proper context, way too many things become misconstrued or taken completely wrong. We're at a phase in our evolution where we really need to stop and think about the things we're saying. I'm not talking about "political correctness," I'm talking about the awareness of how language affects us and shapes our cultures.
Because it's ubiquitous, we don't notice it, but it's clearly a big deal... just read the comments section of any article... such as this one.
They could be 100% of the population which is 7.5 billion, he/she could be 50% which is 3.75 billion which is hardly enough for legal precedent. In legal matters they typically refer to the "defendant" and "plaintiff" and others by name to be precise. It's not confusing in court so your unfounded concern and legal consideration for pronouns is coming off as phobic IMO.
by the way,its okay to be phobic...since every different view is = to that according to fanatical liberals.
@m0752532706 Are you making fun of liberals while simultaneously using an absurd analogy to support your post? That's an impressive amount of self-justification even noting "fanatical" in your response.
