Why do people wait until they end up in prison and/or the hospital to find religion??

Fear... I suppose they wear that mask before they enter and take it off when they get there.

They are recruited and a captive audience.

Partly out of fear, and partly out of personal self interest.

Then there's all the other people - who never do.

My last boyfriend insisted that he would NEVER convert to Christianity; after all he was a Druid priest. Then our house was raided and computers/cell phones/tablets confiscated. Apparently he was frequenting a pedophiles account on 4chan and exchanging images. Arrested, and pled down to 10 counts of possession and one count of distribution of child porn (he had over 500 images on his computer).

The day before sentencing he was baptized a Christian and married a "fine Christian woman". All because he thought it would give him a lighter sentence and easier time in prison. Don't know/don't care if it worked, but I do know that his "wife" divorced him less than a year into the sentence and he is listed again as pagan.

I can't tell you why others converted, but I would think it would also be to have an easier time in prison. As for the hospital, I have no clue.

I know somebody who is serving a year long sentence for allegedly being part of an “organized crime ring” who apparently obtained loans on stolen or non existent farming equipment. The only reason he is serving such a low sentence is because he was a very minor shareholder in the company and the courts could not establish his implication in the scheme ( in my opinion he is innocent and was trying to run small business.) He turned back to religion in part because of pressure from family members and also maybe to relive some of the cognitive dissonance and guilt of letting his elderly parents down.

He was a great person while religious many years ago, a great person while a non believer, and will probably be a great person now that he believes again.

Who gives a shit! I've been in both and I still think the bible is still babbling bullshit.

Id say its a good way of impressing a parole board myself or sheer desperation.

They don't really, they are just bluffing to make people forgive him/her...

I think for some people the knowledge that the existence of God can not be proved or disproved causes some uncertainty when in dire circumstances. It is an attitude of "better safe than sorry", "just in case" or hedging their bets.

I ended up in hospital once from a head on car accident and the oil tanker full of oil did not exploded like in the movies. Didn't occurred to me it was god business I was drunk that night and took the wrong turn. My little car was totalled but took with him 80,000 dollars of fuel plus the trailer. Tough little fella. How in the hell I got away with my military rank intact is beyond me. But I still not crediting god.

Luck was on your side. Glad it was. 🙂

@Betty better lucky that sorry, that's for sure. I do carry a metal bar in my left arm as reminder of my good luck. Thank You Boo.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

Does that metal bar give you problems at the airport? 🙂

@Betty Never went off but military co workers nicknamed me crash and wondered if I could crack open a skull with a forearm. Leave it to the military to make you feel good.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

Do you like lollipops?

@Betty is that a trick question? is the lollipop gonna hurt me? I can't stand pain.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

Your profile picture looks a little like Telly Savalas and he liked lollipops. Just wondered if you did too. 🙂

@Betty Who loves you baby? I will lollipop for you. Not shave my head.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

So, I wasn't the first to make a comparison. So what is your favorite flavor? 😉

@Betty Cherry of course.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

If they ever do a movie about the career of Telly Savalas you should audition for the role. You would be a shoe-in. 🙂

@Betty let me warn you I am a shoe freak. Shoe-in he, he, ha, he.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

Maybe they'll do a musical and you can use all your shoes. 😛

@Betty there yo go Koyak the musical.

@GipsyOfNewSpain

Sounds good to me. You could write the songs. 👍
