It would have easily been believable if it were real.

Creating a charity to raise money for veterans then keeping the money was enough for me to believe anything anyone said about him no matter how vile.

I noted the "slumlord father" part. Acorns do not fall far from the tree and I suspect a lot of this mad man's character (or lack thereof) came from the father. Abuse, the gift that keeps on giving.
