Does anyone else live in a location where they play religious music in Department and Grocery stores? Im talking very popular ones. It makes me crazy!
Do complain. I’m in a ‘mid-Atlantic state,’ so they kinda watch it, but some of that nose singing ‘country music’ is loaded with religious lyrics. And of course the X-mess junk.. I doubt it helps to strictly avoid the establishment without letting know why, but I’d definitely shop elsewhere if it continued after complaining...
...and for those writing this off as ‘the bible belt,’ that belt’s expanding ~
Oh yeah. Winston-Salem, NC. Although, it's mainly in independent stores. Haven't noticed it in any major chains.
From what I’ve seen of your posts, that’s the price of living in a Bible Belt. I only find this funny because I don’t have to deal with it, but on the other hand I can sympathize, I still have those damn hymns stuck in my head from years of singing them in chirch. I’m curious, do you still need to attend church to stay alive?
Ya but it doesn't bother me at all. It's their business and I don't have to be there. I would be more bothered at a civic building or event, but even that gets a pass. I don't have an issue with cultural celebration, and the US has a pretty heavy Christian population. I was in India during Holi and it was really cool to see. Pledge of allegiance bothers me more than holiday music, but as a school teacher, I still have to deal with that too. Bigger fish to fry I guess =)
Here in Covington, Georgia (home of many TV shows and Movies: Heat of the Night, Vampire Diaries, Dukes of Hazard, and many more) they play Christian music in even the place where I get my hair cut and Asian restaurants where I know the Owners are Buddhists, Daoists. One restaurant, where the owner is Shinto, is covered in Christian decorations.
