So she defected. Who cares.

Why do so many American atheists hate America so much? Even after it has become increasingly secular. Bizarre world! Look into Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation to hear stories from people who escaped communism to see what you're missing.

I remember when I used to drive a Volkswagen that people would call me a Nazi. Prayer belongs in Religious Services and not Schools and if it was to be allowed you would need to include 30 or more in order to ensure everyone was included. Making a standard prayer is Communism, not Religion.

Communism is a lot more than a standard prayer in school.

So what?
She's been dead for years.
It doesn't matter if she tried to do that.
BFD.
What matters is NOW.

It's just a topic put up for thought, reflection and possible discussion if you so care to. No need for the negative bs... ?

@Captain_Feelgood I will make whatever comments I please, thank you very much. Your interpretation of whether they may be "negative" is irrelevant.

Lots of other countries she could have applied for. Being more than half of our Budget is spent on the Military doesn't put us far from being a Socialist Nation.

Sorry, but that's not even close to being true. We spend about 16% on military. The folks saying 57 don't factor in the mandatory spending.

Newsflash America is failing in education ,health care , police force , news and a dipshit of a president ...guess what it ain't that great !!!!

So is Sweden.

@repubatheists they not the ones claiming to be the best at everything!!!

@Simon1 So what, Sweden's infrastructure is not faring well these days despite US-haters ignorantly thinking it is.

@repubatheists lol your funny .....what you are doing is called deflection .....ignore the shit in your pants and point at someone else's pee stains ....your president thinks he's good at it as well

@Simon1 I'm just responding to your over exaggeration of a country that has the third largest population in the world. US deserves credit.

......... and??

She sure did, between 1959 and 1960, but she and her son were denied citizenship.

That's a hefty skeleton in the closet for American Atheists, and the separation of church and state movement in general. It originates from a woman who hated America so much that she attempted to defect !

What is strange is that she attempted to defect to a system that was much more controlling than Christians in the United States.

@repubatheists Unfortunately, being an atheist does not grant one automatic intelligence, and look at some examples on this site alone. If it wasn't for the conservative groups on here, I wouldn't stick around, not exactly a conservative-friendly site.

They were Atheists … by proclamation. I suspect she’d had it with death threats and entrenched wrong-wing politicians in the USA. “The most hated woman in America,” I believe … I was fairly young.. She’d wear white dresses when she spoke so the gunshot wound would show up easier.

As is, she stayed in a nation so ..F’ed up by & with religion few in Texas would work for her organization beyond ex-cons and societal outcasts. One, assuming ‘nobody'd care’ if she ‘disappeared’ (the texas police didn’t) … that he could extort the resources of her organization and even kill her and her kin … all but the one turned religious.. What a Kountry!

...At the same time ..I was looking into an ex-catholic nunnery in Portland OR for sale ...while corresponding with Robin, as they were looking to leave Texas.. I wish the first family of Atheism had made it to the former Soviet Union, a couple of them would likely still be alive.

She attempted to defect before she became a national sensation. Something was screwed wrong in her head if she hated America enough to defect to the Soviets.

@repubatheists Before Murray vs Curlett?

She didn’t hate America … america hated her..

And I’d be careful about who you claim has a screw loose … I’ve read your work ~

@Varn Yes, she attempted to defect starting in 1959. Her campaign to end prayer in school began in 1960. I'd rather have a screw loose as a person who appreciates being an American rather than someone defecting to the Soviets xP

@repubatheists I see that your sources have been requested … but have not appeared..

Actually, so what? I looked into the entry requirements of multiple nations before relocating. Might I have ‘defected’ to Ireland, or Australia, or Central America … and granted political asylum in trade for my national secretes 😀

Can you imagine the ‘state secretes’ she’d have divulged..? ‘American’s are religious bigots,’ ‘racists, too,’ ‘chauvinistic,’ ‘and homophobic!’ Yup, all the stuff those dastardly Reds knew nothing about 😉 Now they use it against us to elect Republicans!

@Varn And for some reason atheists get mad when Christians bring up communism. 🙂 Sources have been provided in this thread.

@repubatheists Really..? Is that why you’ve strayed from the Republican echochamber 😀 I’ve noticed, having known Atheist quite a while, most admired the Soviet Union’s attempt to rid itself of religion and use former churches for something worthwhile … like grain storage..

Wikipedia … the source that’s manipulatable by anyone 😉 But as mentioned, so what ~ (bye)

@Varn Anyone who admires the Soviets should visit countries like Czech Republic and view the Museum of Communism, or simply read the history of Czechoslovakia, or Russia, or China. I also recommend looking into Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. [victimsofcommunism.org]

@Varn A good part of me thinks if Madalyn Murray O'Hair had made it to the Soviet Union she would have regretted it. There's a good chance she would have not had the opportunity to return.

@repubatheists Exactly why should anyone "appreciate" being an American?
This country is no better than most.
Your "patriotism" is rather pathetic.
It appears your knowledge of history is as well.

@KKGator Have you lived outside of the US for an extended period of time?

@repubatheists

"A good part of me thinks if Madalyn Murray O'Hair had made it to the Soviet Union she would have regretted it.

She probably had some regrets just before she, with her son and granddaughter, were kidnapped, extorted, and murdered in Texas.

I didn't know that. Can you provide a link to substantiate?

In 1959 to 1960 she attempted to defect to the Soviet Union, but she and her son were denied citizenship. Upon doing a Google or Yahoo search on the topic, there are other sources that had confirmed that much.

@SpikeTalon Thanks.

@rogueflyer Surely.

She is even listed as a member of the Socialist Workers Party. [en.wikipedia.org]
