What is strange is that she attempted to defect to a system that was much more controlling than Christians in the United States.

In 1959 to 1960 she attempted to defect to the Soviet Union, but she and her son were denied citizenship. Upon doing a Google or Yahoo search on the topic, there are other sources that had confirmed that much.
