Just because someone has achieved senior citizen status does not grant one the right to go unchallenged if one's intent on being nasty, bitter and plain old grumpy. I'm hearing lots of people my age (I'm seventy) saying that they've earned, by dint of their longevity, the right to jettison the need to be civil, patient and tolerant in their dealings with other people. I think that's just wrong. Very wrong.

I always say, "I've earned the right to be childish... "

But seriously, when someone tells me they've "earned the right" to do anything, I ask them if the organization that gave them the right was accredited. Do they still have their diploma or certificate... and I'm going to need to see credentials. And I'm not sure online diplomas count.

I totally agree and it is rampant, which is why I tend to steer clear of people in my age group. I am not necessarily a person who enjoys dealing with people (I am in customer service so imagine my exhaustion level at the end of a work day 😕) but I always attempt to, at the very least, be civil. A lot of elderly people seem to lose that filter, probably due to overexposure to bullshit in their long life (which I understand) or are suffering from health issues that erode their strength and patience. Maybe I will turn into one of them down the road but I fight it every day and try to stay positive about life, even when it is punching you in the face. 😀

I put up with less bullshit every year. If that makes me nasty, bitter and plain old grumpy....O well.

This!

@RobLawrence. A girlfriend (Irish) & I have noted how as one ages, the medical profession talks to anyone else in the room but us.....our plan is to carry shelaleg's.
Do you favor giving them one warning or just giving them a Whap across the shins right away?

@AnneWimsey I googled that word and still didn't find anything. LOL

@Secretguy a gnarly walking "stick" more like a 2x4 on gnarly. Spelling is probably wrong.....

Drat. I'd planned on kicking that in next year.

I'm 74 and I hope I don't come across that way unless I am challenging someone else who I feel is being nasty, bitter and grumpy.
