Just curious how many people on here consider themselves 100% either liberal Democrat or conservative republican? ( in the “normal” way of thinking) Dont want to know which one, just whether you identify with one or the other without exception. just a simple yes or no?

Update...I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments and just as I thought so far not a single yes. I believe religion is often the key factor that would push someone to answering yes. I expected a wide variety of opinions from people on this site And that’s what I got. It gives me hope that in time as more people think for themselves we can figure this stuff out and make this world a better place.

I am a libertarian, but realistically I vote liberal. The GOP has become the party of moral decay and a failure of economic leadership.
I don't like the idea of giving my money to others, but I love maximizing my return on my money that's going to taken from me one was or another.

Darn I am not so much just curious that I must be a dog and will live longer than a cat.

Where I live we don't have your stupid system. We have our own stupid system so your question makes no sense to me.

Yes - I'm a Democrat. I don't think my former religious affiliation had much impact on my politics as I was Democrat even at the peak of Christian fundamentalist days.

No.
Group identity politcs/philosopy is counter-productive.
I consider myself to be a compassionate liberal caplitalist. Neither/none of the major parties comes close.

Is it even possible to be 100% Democrat? What is the democrat platform? What are their goals? The democratic party has become a loose association of special interests and single issue voters, many of which are often in conflict with each other. I doubt it is possible to be fully in support of all of them at once. So being a democrat today is a lot like being a Catholic today. You support what you agree with and just ignore the rest.

The Republican party, on the other hand, does have a central platform: the very, very, VERY wealthy. These are the only people that the republican party supports. Everyone else just gets lied to that the rich will take care of them and if they're not rich themselves then it's the fault of immigrants, gays, liberals, the poor, unions, non-christians and scores of other groups, mostly those supported by democrats. People who are 100% republican and are NOT billionaires are at least 90% stupid.

So I consider myself a democrat only because they are the main opposition to republicans, ineffective and incompetent as they are. So no, I am nowhere near "100 percent" democrat. I might be 100% ANTI-Republican, however. If only there were such a party.

Moderate, realist, go by the issue, some require a social solution, others personal responsibility, I believe in as much liberty as possible, but realistically there needs to be a level of secular governance for different situations.

No to both of them.

Whoever fits almost entirely in one of the two categories is not thinking on his/her own. They’ve delegated the thinking to others because they are too lazy to think or simply lack the creativity, and intelligence to do so. Unless you are a politician getting paid to commit to certain ideas, the idea of accepting someone else’s take on reality instead of finding your own is such a sad waste of a life. People convince themselves they actually “think” or “agree”. The pattern is sadly similar to religion adherence, what you were taught as a child becomes your faith. Politics is even trickier because there are good arguments to support all ideas and there are no invisible men. It seems more real.

Many people are too ignorant to even know that ideas that used to be liberal are now conservative and viceversa. The first republican presidents promoted universal healthcare and the first democratic presidents wanted to limit government control supported by their parties... Just to mention the first two that come to mind.

Don’t drink the koolaid. Think with your own brain. That’s what it’s for.

@maturin1919 it’s not impossible, but it’s highly unlikely. Not so much on the general ideas but on the details. E.g. most liberals would be ok with people owning guns for self defense, but they don’t understand why semiautomatic weapons are necessary in civilian life. Republicans hear no reasons, and insist regulation on the matter is a trick to start destroying American freedom. Really? Bombs are weapons but they aren’t allowed in civilian society, people are still free and the second amendment withstood bombs being forbidden... Most Republicans believe a lot of things that aren’t true such as the fact America was built on Christian values. That resembles faith. Denying a true fact or believing something untrue makes no sense. Another example? Democrats believe all minorities must be defended, they quickly call Trump islamophobic but also pretend to be pro gay and pro women rights. Well, in many Islamic countries gay people are killed, in most Islamic countries women can’t get an education, vote or even drive. Many moderate muslims believe ex-muslims should be killed. All based on an ideology and interpretation of the Quran. Democrats don’t want to see the problem. They can’t be pro-gay, pro-women rights and also defend the rights of an ideology that is openly against those values. Those are just two of many many examples I could give you. Those contradictions are useful to politicians that want your vote and try to stand on multiple sides at once, but if one is a freethinker, he/she should see through the BS and understand what’s propaganda and what are good ideas. Identifying 100% with one party or the other denotes scarse objectivity and freethinking.

That said, I believe one should exercise the right to vote and choose the candidate that best represents their ideas. I’m not saying one shouldn’t prefer one candidate over another.

I also think masses are ignorant and mostly irrational. We are tribal animals, like many other primates. Democrat, Republican is a way to capitalize on that tribal instinct. Our brain is designed to follow an “us and the others” pattern. If you identify as Republican or Democrat you have married the idea they are trying to have you adhere to. You’ll feel a sense of belonging to one of the two tribes and will shut your brain to any good ideas that may come from the “enemy” tribe. You will not keep an open mind and progress will happen much much slower. But people in power will have much easier control over your life, choices, ideas and brain.

I hope that answers your question. Yes, I am very skeptic of people that strongly identify as Republican or Democrat. I find they are mostly very narrow minded and not very open to considering new ideas that conflict with their “political faith”.

I’m a conservative and strong Trump supporter but unfortunately most of the people on this website particularly on the main forum seem to be Obama loving, Trump bashing, gun grabbing, left wing socialist liberal idiots! We do have a conservative atheist group here though that for the most part are good sensible people. Hell the left wing idiots on this website are even more idiotic than the Christain’s!

IT's becoming recognized that conservatives or regressives are mentally ill.

Yes! Some progressives can be every bit as illiberal (regressive) as many of the actual conservatives.

0

Just what is the "normal way of thinking"?

0

Agressive Progressive Liberal here. Yes.

The whole idea of defining liberal wrs. Conservative is absurd! Every actions related to our politicians must be valued in relation to the wellbeing of our society (WORLD SOCIETY) common sense, equality, and respect. Any groups of association following those principles gets my support and vote! I DO NOT SEE ANYONE COMING OUT YET!

@Omen6Actual that is the same response from all our enemies!

@Omen6Actual i did NOT suggested removing safeguards! Most "cretins" are a result of inbreeding.
