Where do agnostics/atheists go if they're alcoholics? I go to AA but the steps are so laden with surrendering to some type of higher power that I'm having trouble with the overall message.
Some AA'ers use the idea of the group itself as a higher power, I just use the message of recovery not the religious implication of it. You can believe the tree outside is a higher power if it works for you.
Our Humanist group had an alcoholics group for non believers, SOS (Save Our Selves). The concept was that you are responsible for yourself, not a higher power. You might check with Humanist/Free Thought groups in your area to see if there are opportunities available. Good luck, be well.
