So I'm going to do my best to not make this sound like an angry post.

But it really grates on my nerves when someone responds to a post, pointing out a typo or misspelling. Probably most of us pound out our posts via smartphone. Little keyboard. Sometimes we post our thoughts at 2am when we have trouble sleeping. So yeah. There might be mistakes. But it's about the content of the post is what matters, not the random typo. If your life is so perfect that you can point out such trivial things just to make yourself feel of higher stature or to feel of greater importance than others. Then maybe you should start your own cult or something. This probably stems to delusions of grandeur of some level. The fact that someone has to point out such a minor and trivial thing like in a joke or a funny story really is the kill joy at the party. Get a damn sence of humor! Be a human. Enjoy and appreciate what that person took the time to pound out on that little keyboard. Just remember. You ain't perfect either. I really tried my best to tone it down a bit. Didn't carpet bomb the place with F Bombs. As much as I wanted to. Lol

Personally I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar for myself, but I find many of my own posts with misspellings and grammar goofs. I fix them when I notice it. BUT, my feeling is that if a person is clever enough to understand my meaning, and possesses enough grace not to point out my goofs, then it's all good - and I try to be the same as I'm hoping others would be.

Once in a while I'll read a post that is really just a word salad from what I can tell, so I just move on without comment.

Sorry--I don't do it as often as I want to.... but if you post something about anyone else being stupid or uneducated & you can't even spell or use simple punctuation, the gloves are off.

The only thing I really insist on is coherency. As I said about one post earlier today, "I don't see a statement, a question, or even a complete sentence here". What am I supposed to even do with something like that?

I hate having to guess at someone's meaning. To play a game of 27 questions and suddenly realize, aha, that's probably what they meant! Probably. But usually, I'm not going to reply to it only to find they meant something else, or can't even articulate WTF they meant when you ask for clarification.

A frightening number of people on sites like this approach functional illiteracy, unfortunately.

As for the smartphone thing, personally, I don't use a smartphone exactly because communicating clearly and efficiently is important to me. It's the wrong tool for the job, in my view. But I'm pretty tolerant of the occasional typo, so long as someone can form complete and coherent sentences and convey ideas clearly. And I try to remember that as a writer, it's easy to forget that many people don't spend most of their day at a keyboard and aren't very practiced at organizing their thoughts for posting.

I agree...I think many of us got so used to FB where it was assumed a certain party's followers were ignorant and were poor spellers and had poor grammar, that we went a bit overboard mocking and correctly them...here...if I can understand the gist of what is being said, no problem...you gave good reasons how that can happen to the best of us...been there, done that...HOWEVER, if it is obvious that the person does not know the correct spelling, I think it could be pointed out in a private message so the person can learn and correct it...public calling out seems rude to me...

Oh, and yeah, the joke thing...what a bunch of killjoys...if you don't think it is funny or are going to over analyze it...scroll past and don't comment...your comment only serves to show what a dick you really are...lol
